Save Auckland CABs!

Don’t cut funding from Auckland CABs! Citizens Advice Bureau provides critical services to communities across Tāmaki Makaurau and its services are needed now, more than ever.

Why is this important?

The service provided by Auckland CABs is absolutely essential – something that is even more apparent in times of crisis. With the recent floods and the ongoing challenges of daily life, Auckland CABs are helping people with information and advice and connecting them with the support they need. Last year our dedicated volunteers in Auckland CABs helped more than 160,000 people. Auckland Council is proposing to significantly cut or even remove all funding from CABs in Auckland in its budget for 2023/24. This could result in the complete closure of the CAB service, which has been serving Tāmaki Makaurau for over 50 years.

Let Auckland Council know that they should not cut funding to Auckland CABs.

What's next?... Auckland Council has signalled its expectation that central government will also contribute to future funding of Auckland CABs. Council wants 50% of CAB funding to come from central government by July 2024. Currently our National Office receives funding from central government, but the community-based CAB service to the public is not directly supported by central government. We would love this to change so that all our CABs are funded sustainably into the future through an effective partnership with both local and central government.
As we head towards a general election on 14 October 2023, ask election candidates what their position is on central government funding for Citizens Advice Bureau. Remind them how important the CAB service is in your community!

Thanks to effective campaigning and the amazing support we received from all of you, the Auckland Council decided in June 2023 to continue funding the CAB service in Auckland for the 2023–2024 year. This was a huge win for the CAB, the Auckland public, and those who supported our campaign. Thank you!
