We Need a Bus Stop: Support Public Transport on Waipuna Road

Action for Access: New Bus Stop for Waipuna Road to create connection to Sylvia park train station/bus stops and even better Pakuranga and Panmure.

Why is this important?

Everyone deserves to be able to get where they need to go, whether that’s getting to work, attending school, visiting the doctor, buying groceries or seeing friends and family. Access to reliable public transport can make a real difference to people’s independence, opportunities and quality of life.

1. A lack of bus stops on Waipuna Road and Levene Place creates barriers for people who need transport most

Auckland Transport decides where buses stop, and right now there are no bus stops on these roads. The nearest public transport is at least 25 to 30 minutes walk, creating additional barriers for the working class people, the elderly, disabled people, students, people on lower incomes and others who cannot drive or do not have access to a car. Without convenient public transport, everyday journeys to work, education, healthcare, shops and other essential services can become much harder.

2. The people who keep this area running need better options

Waipuna Road and Levene Place are home to people who care for residents at Radius Rest Home, welcome guests at Waipuna Hotel and work for employers such as Rocket Lab and other local businesses.
We are calling for bus stops at key locations along Waipuna Road, including near Waipuna Hotel and around 103 Waipuna Road, close to Rocket Lab and Resthome. These locations would help make public transport more accessible for employees, hotel guests, rest home workers, residents and other people who live, work or visit the area.

Workers need practical ways to get to and from work, including those who cannot drive or rely on someone else for a lift.

3. Better bus connections would help people access more of their community, including Panmure Basin on weekends

Better bus connections on Waipuna Road and Levene Place could give people more options for getting to work, reaching shops and essential services, and travelling to destinations such as Sylvia Park, Pakuranga and Panmure.

Improved public transport connections could also make Waipuna Junction more accessible to Aucklanders, particularly on weekends. Waipuna junction is a valuable recreational destination where people can enjoy Waipuna Miniature Railway, RC boat drive, picnic, playground and spending time with family and friends, and connecting with nature. However, people without access to a car may find it difficult to visit if convenient public transport options are limited.

Better connections throughout the week and on weekends would help families, young people, older adults, people with disabilities and others enjoy local recreational spaces and participate more fully in community life.

Public transport should support not only commuting and essential daily needs, but also recreation, wellbeing and social connection. Better connections would reduce reliance on cars and help make our community more accessible and inclusive.

Help us improve public transport access for our community

We are calling on local businesses, community organizations, and people who live and work in the area to stand together for better public transport access on Waipuna Junction, Waipuna Road, Waipuna road east and Levene Place.

By signing this petition, we can show Auckland Transport that this is an issue our community cares about and that better access would benefit the people and businesses that make this area thrive.
