Return the Total Mobility subsidy to 75% and let us go out and about with dignity

We call on the Government to return the Total Mobility Scheme subsidy to 75% so people with disabilities can continue travelling with independence, dignity and respect.

The Total Mobility Scheme provides government-subsidised discounted taxi and specialist transport services for people whose disabilities prevent them from using public transport. This scheme allows users independence, safety, and dignity when travelling and accessing their communities.

However, as of July 1 the government has decreased the nationwide subsidy from 75% to 65% and the maximum amount you can claim per trip has been reduced in most regions. This reduction is detrimental to those of us who rely on the scheme for independence.

Why is this important?

The reduced subsidy is coming at a time when many people are already struggling with the rising cost of living, and risks limiting people with disabilities’ access to work, healthcare, grocery shopping, and other everyday social and community activities. Returning the subsidy back to 75% will allow for greater accessibility to the service, and thus greater outcomes for people with disabilities.

Total Mobility is not a luxury, it is an essential service that must remain accessible.
