We, the undersigned residents of Whanganui, call on Whanganui District Council to urgently prioritise safety improvements at the Morgan Street, Cornfoot Street, and Short Street intersection in Castlecliff.
Following multiple serious crashes — including vehicles colliding with four different properties along Cornfoot Street — local residents are distressed and increasingly concerned for their safety.
We respectfully call for:
- Immediate traffic-calming measures and safety improvements to the existing road layout.
- A long-term, data-informed redesign to be included in future capital works planning.
- Advocacy from WDC and MP Carl Bates for the reinstatement of NZTA’s Low Cost Low Risk (LCLR) funding for local road safety improvements.
