Introduce a rural planning system allowing 2 dwellings per 5 hectares on all rural land.

Allow people with 5 hectares of rural land to sell 1 hectare of land to a residential development.

Why is this important?

In order to resolve climate change we need to minimise the use of fossil fuels. This will require people working in agriculture to live closer to where they work.

In order to resolve the housing supply problems, many people need to have the opportunity to move to rural areas.

In order to resolve the ecology problems, many people need to be able to move to the countryside to turn ecologically-barren lands into areas that include more ecological habitats.

In order to create a healthy sustainable food supply, agriculture needs to become based on permaculture gardening, mixed use farming, hydroponics, aquaponics and community gardening. These land uses are more labour intensive than 'industrial-era-farming'. This will require more people living closer to agriculture enterprise.

In order to repay New Zealand's Government debt and private debt, many houses need to be sold in urban areas. There needs to be a supply of houses so that New Zealanders can sell urban houses and move to the countryside or invest in rural development.

In many rural areas there is a lack of services and entertainment options. Having more people move to rural areas to create a town and country lifestyle will improve the well-being of rural communities and promote more innovation and art within rural communities.
