Demand that Fullers Ferry are required to and do maintain all freight services on Waiheke Island

We demand that Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and the NZ Parliament require Fullers Ferry to maintain all freight services to and from Waiheke Island and that Fullers Ferry refrain from being allowed to cease freight services to/from Waiheke Island, or from being able to place the proposed restrictions on freight as they are likely to have a significant adverse effect on local businesses, vineyards, suppliers, the local community, charitable organisations and the wider community.
We also request that Fullers Ferry immediately refrain from ceasing any freight services on Waiheke Island or from placing any significant restrictions on the freight services on Waiheke Island.
We also request that Fullers Ferry immediately refrain from ceasing any freight services on Waiheke Island or from placing any significant restrictions on the freight services on Waiheke Island.
Why is this important?
On 21 September 2018 Fullers Ferry circulated an internal email advising that as of Monday, 15 October 2018 2018 Fullers Ferry will no longer operate freight services to/from Waiheke Island. Fullers Ferry is proposing to place significant restrictions on the size and weight of freight, requiring all freight to fit within small new trolleys and that all freight must weigh under 14kgs.
Fullers Ferry run and operate from and/on public spaces. The proposed restriction may represent a breach of the good faith and service expectations that the Waiheke and wider community rely on.
This is important because, as one of only two freight and ferry service operators on Waiheke Island, the Waiheke community, businesses, schools, tourist operators, vineyards, restaurants, shops, suppliers, community organisations, charitable organisations, medical and other essential services and operators, and the wider community all rely and depend on Fullers Ferry to provide adequate and sufficient freight services to/from Waiheke Island.
Many of these entities, services, and providers are likely to be significantly and adversely effected by any decision by Fullers Ferry to restrict or cease freight services on Waiheke Island.
Furthermore, it is possible that businesses and the community on Waiheke Island will experience significant increased costs, or the threat of having to close if Fullers Ferry proceeds with its plan to substantially restrict and/or cease freight services on Waiheke Island.
The Waiheke community, local business and essential service providers must come first to ensure Waiheke Island is an island that provides for everyone and not just the few.
