Why is this important?
The new bus routes for areas like Remuera, Meadowbank, Mt Wellington, St Heliers and St Johns (with the loss of 635,605,606,632,767) are making it harder to commute. Some are affected in Onehunga with 312 and 390 bus routes being taken out. Some are dissapointed to see 505 and 515 routes being taken out. This change has made emphasis on "connectivity" but really, all the buses are too far to connect from one to another. Nothing goes to Britomart.
It's taking out people's valuable time to spend time for themselves and their families. The travel time is doubled from what it was before. It's ridiculous when it takes 1 hour to get from Remuera to CBD. AT is in charge of making people's commute easier, NOT harder. People use Public Transport to go to work or school, so the bus needs to go to those areas, not to the Museum or to Sylvia park.
With fuel prices increasing and parking prices, it makes people leave with the only choice of taking the bus, but this network change is not benefiting most people in these areas. It's making people frustrated and harassing them just spending hours and hours in a bus to get to work from home.
It's frustrating when you have to take one bus, get out and wait for another bus or a train to arrive, and with that being late or that being on time- that's the time people are going to get to work.
Earlier buses were very good, with people actually using those services. The buses were frequent at peak times and there were a few options for people to take the bus where as now if you miss a bus, there's no other option than waiting for the same bus which is going to arrive in 15 min. And that's a long time to wait and to see how much traffic gets created within those minutes. The change back to the old buses has to happen- atleast the ones that people aren't happy about. For us in this area, the new bus system is NOT feasible or nor does it give people comfort to commute.
