Construct a crossing on Alexandra St outside Te Awamutu College
Te Awamutu's community would like for the Waipā District Council to construct a crossing on Alexandra Street outside Te Awamutu College. We support the construction of a pedestrian-activated traffic light (Pelican) crossing so pedestrians are able to safely cross at peak traffic times. This means vehicles will be required to stop for a limited time and students will need to cross in groups at one dedicated spot rather than randomly across the road. Traffic is an issue on Alexandra Street, a Pelican crossing means traffic is not as held up because pedestrians are given a limited time to cross.
Why is this important?
Students have been hit by cars and drivers are on high alert as they worry about possibly injuring someone. With a crossing put onto Alexandra Street outside Te Awamutu College, road users will be able to safely cooperate and there will be less risk of injuries.
