ECE Voice

Powered by NZEI Te Riu Roa, ECE Voice is bringing together the voices of everyone in early childhood education to campaign for fair pay and better working conditions in the early childhood sector. We’re working together for the tamariki of Aotearoa.

Early childhood teachers do an incredibly important job. But pay lags up to 49% behind kindergarten and primary teachers with the same skills, qualifications and responsibilities.

The COVID crisis has shown how fragile the market model of ECE is, with even the largest companies needing massive subsidies to keep services open. It’s time to do it differently, for the sake of children and teachers: the Government needs to act urgently to fix the broken system.

When you join ECE Voice, you’re supported by nearly 50,000 NZEI Te Riu Roa members who work across education as ECE teachers, primary teachers, principals and support staff in schools and Learning Support staff. We come together as NZEI Te Riu Roa - New Zealand’s largest education union, a Treaty based organisation and a powerful advocate for quality public education.

Together, we have the most important job in New Zealand - educating for the future.
