WEBINAR: Ngāpuhi Speaks: Informing us on key sovereignty issues

🌱 Formal Presentation with Susan Healy, Ingrid Huygens + JJ Carberry

In terms of sovereignty, the Ngāpuhi Nui Tonu claim regarding He Whakaputanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the most significant claim to the Waitangi Tribunal.

Ngāpuhi Speaks (2012) is an independent report on the hearing of this claim and was commissioned by Ngāpuhi kuia and kaumātua. While it comes to similar conclusions to the Tribunal’s report (2014), it more faithfully captures the evidence of the Ngāpuhi Nui Tonu speakers.

Ngāpuhi Speaks is being used by a number of educational providers as an important resource for understanding the history and intentions of He Whakaputanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

In this session, two of the co-authors along with others who use Ngāpuhi Speaks as a resource will comment on the significance of the report and demonstrate how it is being used in education.
