🌱 Kaikōrero / Speakers: Tauiwi mō Matike Mai Aotearoa
🌱 Ringa hāpai / Chair: Alex Hotere-Barnes
🔥 Webinar format: fireside chat
At the end of treaty education programmes, many tauiwi ask ‘what can we do to finally honour Te Tiriti?’ TmMMA provides a space to continue that discussion, inspired by the vision of Matike Mai Aotearoa: The Independent Working Group on Constitutional Transformation.
This webinar is an opportunity to talk about that vision and how we can best organise to support whānau, hapū, iwi and hāpori Māori in bringing it to fruition.
This session will be facilitated by Anevili Tupuola, Mikesh Patel and Jess Mio
★ ABOUT TAUIWI MŌ MATIKE MAI AOTEAROAOA ★
The 2016 report of Matike Mai Aotearoa describes how “Te Tiriti o Waitangi provided for the continuation of the Māori constitutional order. It created a new constitutional configuration with the grant of kāwanatanga for the Crown to exercise authority over its people while providing for a joint site of power where Māori and the Crown could work together in a Tiriti-based relationship.
This has never come to pass of course and the failure to honour that promise in word and deed remains the most egregious of all of the Crown’s breaches of Te Tiriti. Addressing that breach and finally honouring Te Tiriti is perhaps the most important reason for seeking constitutional transformation.” (p. 101)
Tauiwi mō Matike Mai Aotearoa is a new platform for organising tauiwi (non-Māori) support for Tiriti-based constitutional transformation as envisaged by Matike Mai Aotearoa.
