Whitianga 'Kill the Bill' Submission Writing Hui
Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti + all the other community-led activations around the motu (including here in Whitianga!), was the latest step in mobilising Māori and non-Māori to oppose anti-Māori & anti-Te Tiriti plans by this coalition government.
Public submissions on the ‘Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill’ are currently open until 7th January 2025 for people to have their say. The aim is to absolutely overwhelm the Justice Select Committee with submissions that straight up oppose the Bill in its entirety. It’s not a matter of negotiating points and finding compromise - the Bill is dangerous, divisive and needs to be killed.
Submission writing can be daunting if you’ve never done it before, so we’re hosting a submission writing hui to:
- Support you to write and submit your submission
- Assist with the digital stuff e.g. submitting through the Select Committee online portal
- Provide easy-to-understand info on how Bills are passed into law, and how best to engage in the public submission process.
- Provide prompts and context info, to make writing your submission easier
- Provide info to enrol to vote and/or switch to the Māori roll if applicable
This is a safe, inclusive space to connect and kōrero with like-minded folks, and do the submission mahi together!
